All About Sally's Journey
About Me
I trained at the Central School of Art in London, earning a BA (Hons) in Ceramics. Although my path initially led me into the world of interior design—where I’ve spent the last 30 years building a career and running my interiors shop in Muswell Hill—my heart has always remained with clay. Recently, I’ve returned to my first love: making functional, expressive pieces by hand.
My garden studio in East Sussex sits on the edge of the vast Ashdown Forest, with the South Coast just beyond. These landscapes, along with a lifelong fascination with trees, lichens, and pebbles, continue to shape the forms, textures, and palettes of my work.
I create in stoneware, a high-fired clay that lives up to its name—durable, grounded, and naturally tactile. Each piece is thrown or hand-carved, allowing the form to guide its own character. My glazes are carefully developed to echo the colours and surfaces found in nature, evolving with the seasons as I explore new finishes and techniques.
Every item I make reflects the quiet beauty of the natural world and the joy of returning to a craft that has always felt like home.
